An Italian grower of basil (a herb used for seasoning) chose to replace high-pressure sodium lamps with LED Grow Lights for Indoor Plants and found that it can promote plant growth while reducing energy consumption on the farm.

The grower is located in Reggio, the southern port of Italy. It produces basil for salads, pasta and other dishes, and has previously used high-pressure sodium lamps in its greenhouses.

To avoid the typical basil disease, growers use Led Full Spectrum grow light in the greenhouse for several hours a day, which increases costs.

Using red, super red and blue LED lights in different proportions in the greenhouse, this mode can speed up the growth time of basil, shorten the harvest time by 5 days, and increase crop yield.

Marco Boselli, manager of the grower, said, “We are worried about bacterial proliferation because the Peronospara fungus has been eradicated by the heat generated by HPS lighting, but after using LED Grow Light Strips, we did not encounter any problems.”

"We can also observe that our basil grows better and faster, because the proportion of blue light is lower, the proportion in the LED scheme is 5%, and the proportion in the previous HPS scheme is 24%."
